Vickie (Halman) Hudson 1952-2020

Vickie Lynn Hudson, age 67 of Clinton, Ohio, passed away, after a brief illness, on July 3, 2020.

She was born in Akron, Ohio on October 12, 1952, the daughter of the late Robert and Vivian Yvonne (nee Shackelford) Halman.

She is survived by two sons, Ryan (Jennifer) Derhammer and Zachary Hudson, all of whom are incredibly fortunate to have called her Mom.

She also leaves behind her beloved granddaughter, Evelyn Hudson, and numerous relatives and friends, all of whom deeply loved her and who she deeply loved in return.

Vickie dedicated her life to her family and to the public, serving her fellow citizens throughout her career as a 9-1-1 dispatcher. She was recognized by her family and all who knew her as an incredibly strong, independent, and loving woman. The world will forever be a little brighter for the lives she touched, and she will be deeply, deeply missed.

Per her wishes, her remains were cremated and her ashes will be spread at the ocean in Florida by her sons, where many memorable family vacations were cherished.

Valerie K. (Forkum) Miller 1953-2019

age 66, of Navarre, Ohio went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 13, 2019. She was born on February 5, 1953 in Canton to Duell Ray and Dorthea (Reichard) Forkum. Valerie was a 1971 graduate of Lake High School. She was a loving and dedicated mother and wife to her family. Valerie enjoyed tending to her flowers and researching her family’s genealogy back to their respective home countries.

Valerie is survived by her husband of 45 years, Morris; children Matthew (Dore’) Miller and Christopher Miller both of Navarre; sister Claudia (Ken) Weber of North Carolina.

Calling hours will be Friday, February 15 from 4-6 p.m. at the Heritage Reformed Baptist Church 5715 North Market Ave. Canton, Ohio 44721. Funeral Service will be Saturday February 16 at 10 a.m., final resting place is Mt. Peace Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Aultman Hospice or Breast Cancer Research.

Steve Sommers

steveJanuary 14, 1952 – September 9, 2018

Stephen E. Sommers, age 66, of Hartville, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday September 9, 2018 after fighting heart disease for 21 years. He was born in Canton on January 14, 1952 to the late Ervin and Ada (Yoder) Sommers. He was a 1971 graduate of Lake High School who married his high school sweetheart Deborah Wallbrown on September 22, 1973. Steve was a retired meat cutter from Giant Eagle. He was a member of Evermore Community Church. He enjoyed following high school and college sports. He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and going to the ocean with family. 

He is survived by his wife Debbie; daughter Tiffany Sommers of Flint, MI; 4 siblings Ann Sommers, Nancee (Art) Moss, Miriam (Ken) Weirich, Jon Sommers; siblings-in-law Gary (Traci) Wallbrown, Tammy (Vern Troyer) Wallbrown, Mark (Becky) Wallbrown; and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by brother Paul Sommers.  

Calling hours are Thursday 5-8 PM at Evermore Community Church. Burial is Friday 10 AM at the church cemetery and Memorial services are Friday 11 AM in the church with Pastors Ross Miller and Butch Nisly officiating.

Sandy Humbert

sandySandra “Sandy” Lee Pierce (Humbert)

age 64, answered her call to be with the Lord on Dec. 10th, 2017 after her courageous battle with lung cancer. Sandy was born in Canton, Ohio and graduate of Lake High School, class of 71, and The University of Akron. Sandy is a retiree from Bridgestone Firestone where she worked as a Pension Analyst for 39 years. She was an animal enthusiast and enjoyed raising rabbits in her younger years and enjoyed spending time gardening. Sandy was an avid reader with great collection of books. She took great pride in her family and enjoyed the company of her three sisters. Her family will miss her legendary gift wrapping, but above all a loving wife, mother grandmother and sister.

Sandra is survived by her husband, John Pierce with whom she spent 43 years of marriage; her son, Kyle Pierce (Sarah); grandchildren, Aria and Lunden Pierce; and her sisters, Susan Stone (Bob) and Sinda Schirra (Tom). Preceded in death by parents, Theodore and Margaret Humbert; and sister, Sherri Humbert. A special thanks to The Valloric Family, The Coe Family, and Crossroads Hospice of Green for their care and attention.

Friends and family will be received Wednesday, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 3553 Northdale Street NW, UNIONTOWN, Ohio 44685 (one block NW of the square of 619 & Cleveland Ave.) Funeral service will be Thursday, 10:30 a.m., at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Woods Cemetery in Uniontown. If you wish in lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to Pets for Adoption at Stark County Dog Warden Department.

Kimberley Hall Riley

kimhall3Kimberley Hall Riley of Chandler, Arizona, formerly of Uniontown and a 1971 Lake High School graduate, passed away suddenly February 9, 2016.

She is survived by her loving husband of nearly forty years, Jonathan; son, Sean (Kaylen); and granddaughter, Sarah, of San Diego; step-sons, Kelly (Amy) of Abilene, Texas and Kyle of Amarillo, Texas. Kim was a devoted mother, blessed to be able to welcome her new granddaughter in October, a wonderful wife, neighbor, friend, daughter, and sister. She is also survived by parents, Howard and Ida Hall of Las Vegas; siblings, David of Canton, Beth (Gary) Klainer of Munroe Falls, Kevin of Akron, and Kelly (Gino) Torcasio of Canton; numerous loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Private services were held on February 15 at Bueler Mortuary and Chapel in Chandler.

John Stewart

age 62, of Hartville, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday morning May 3, 2015. He was born in Canton, Ohio on November 21, 1952 to the late Norval Ballentyne Jr. and Ruth Elva (Wertenberger) Stewart and was a 1971 Lake High School Graduate. He was a lifetime member of Advent Lutheran Church and sang in the choir. He also sang with the Greater Canton Men’s Chorus. He had been a truck driver for Monarch Rubber, Hartville Block, Gross Brothers Concrete and R.W. Sidley, Inc. John was a big guy with a big heart and smile. He always did nice things for others.
Survived by his sisters and brother-in-law Susan and Tom Rollins of Canton, Marybeth Stewart Goon of Vancouver, WA; nieces and nephews Heather (Jason) Coontz of Rittman, Samantha Goon and Calvin Goon of Vancouver, WA; great-niece and nephew Lily and Ian Coontz; other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends Saturday 10-11 a.m. at Advent Lutheran Church. A memorial service will begin 11 a.m. in the church Saturday with Pastor Bob Cheyney officiating. A Luncheon follows.
